The construction of the magnificent Lake Palace was completed in the 18th century between 1743 to 1746. The palace was initially called as Jag Niwas based on the name of its founder.
The direction of the palace was kept towards the eastern side, keeping in mind the fact of offering prayers by the inhabitants of the palace to the Hindu Sun God Surya, at the time of dawn.
